NEW – Folio Album Canvas Range

This simple, but beautifully handmade canvas range is one of England’s newest and finest. A supplier who we are very proud and excited to work so closely with, whether it be for our Boutique Event’s ‘storyboard’ albums or indeed a bespoke locations and interiors book.

The Folio Album Canvas Range (which come in a wide variety of colours and sizes) are always of a square format, which works wonderfully with the double spread panoramics especially.

All of our books comes in square form – either 12” x 12”, 10” x 10”, or 8” x 8”, so with a creative element of design, we can bring balance to your images whether portrait or landscape in the post-production stages.

FolioAlbums03 FolioAlbums02 FolioAlbums01There are some things we don’t want you to notice – So as this range is hand-bound and encased in fine materials, the albums open flat with an almost invisible crease, allowing us to showcase the very best photographic art across two pages. The suppliers use pigment-based archival inks, so the crease will keep its discreet nature and won’t discolour over time.

Our matte-finished fine art papers are truly worthy of their place inside our hand-made books. They are chosen to last a lifetime and have an impeccable, sustainable provenance and as our papers are bonded back-to-back, our albums have a ‘page-turn’ that feels just wonderful; flexible enough but durable for all that handling.

This Folio Album Canvas Range isn’t just to be looked at, they’re to be held and lingered over and with a wide choice of colours and the option to add a personal touch, such as a name, a special date or phrase.

This Folio Album Canvas Range isn’t just to be looked at, they’re to be held and lingered over and with a wide choice of colours and the option to add a personal touch, such as a name, a special date or phrase. One method we use is a traditional ‘blocking technique’ carried out by hand which involves pressing hot brass type into the cover material leaving a classic, subtle impression.

Alternatively, there is the option for a highly accurate laser to digitally engrave your text or logo onto the cover. It works by removing the top layer of the material revealing subtly different hues underneath.

All of the Folio Album Canvas Range (whatever size) come complete with a smart & simple ‘slip-case’. This cotton presentation bag are a little reminder of how precious the contents are. The slip cases also do the practical, important job of keeping your books clean and dust-free and are made from ethical sources, unbleached and washed only in fresh spring water so its natural qualities are evident in every fibre.

Lastly, the slip-cases are presented in the Folio Album Canvas Range boxes with the option to upgrade to a handmade bamboo box if you wanted that extra something special. Whatever version you choose, know that our suppliers have done their utmost to be kind to the planet, choosing only the finest sustainable materials.

Herbalife Vacation in Greece

This was my first ‘on location’ shoot for Herbalife Europe and while it may be a bit of a challenge to put into words exactly what a ‘Herbalife Vacation’ entails, I though I’d post a few photos which hopefully show the fun and energy had by some of Herbalife Europe’s top distributors. Typically the days started at the crack of dawn with a fairly intense fit club on the tennis courts, followed by breakfast at one of the shake bars, then perhaps a light mid-morning workout at the gym before a refreshing dip in one of the resort’s infinity pools. After a long relaxing mezze lunch, there was generally a plethora of afternoon activities such as cycling up in the Messinian mountains or trekking and a plunge and splash in one of the local waterfalls. As the afternoons started to cool down it was down to the beach for some healthy competition whether it be volleyball, paddlebat of beach soccer and to finish the day off maybe a spot of kite surfing along the rugged Costa Navarino as the wind picked up…

…Then back up to one of the ‘swim up‘ pool bars for a cocktail and the night had only just begun… All in the name of Herbalife Nutrition – for a better life…🙂

On location at Costa Navarino – Greece

Over the last few months I’ve been lucky enough to shoot in some fantastic and colourful locations, one of which was the stunning Costa Navarino in the south of Greece. This location shoot was set in the Luxury resort hotels, amongst an array of high-end residences, beautiful venues and signature golf courses. All set against a backdrop of unspoiled scenery and 4,500 years of History. This really has to be one of the prime destinations in the Mediterranean, with an apparent and strong commitment to environmental responsibility and is located in the Greek region of Messinia, set amongst one of the most unspoiled and breathtaking seaside landscapes in the Mediterranean…

New Website – Partners & Sponsors Page

No professional freelance photographer works entirely alone these days and whilst the work itself can often be a solitary endeavor, over recent years we have realized that the support of reliable business partners is an essential ingredient to running a succesful business such as Joe Lasky Photography and more recently PhotoRag.

The pre-requisites are simple. Each partner must provide a service which helps me to take my business forward. Each must exhibit the same integrity and professionalism that I hope to instill throughout my business, and above all, I seek out partnerships with companies who are supporting the creative community as a whole.

Consequently, the parters listed alongside have contributed significantly to both my creative endeavors and to my business in general. Each has helped me build a brand and identity to be proud of and I can therefore recommend them wholeheartedly…

Another commission comes in with this particular image ‘Cuban Crossroads’ (Havana, Cuba, 2005)

Image

“…The instantly recognizable island of Cuba is one of the most insular islands in the Caribbean. Che Guevara murals and dilapidated American Buicks, old men slapping down dominoes and strumming guitars, queues outside ration shops and communist padres watch the afternoons go by, smoking chunky Montecristos sat on the doorstep of their home while smiley kids play in the nearby cobblestone ‘calles’. Cuba has a way of going against the grain. It’s all part of its historical make-up, part of its dynamism, part of its intrinsic beauty…”

It’s here, in the heart of Old Havana, where the inspiration for ‘Cuban Crossroads’ really began. A collection that then grew from Cuba’s ‘Habana Vieja’ complete with endless Buiks & Checvies, to other colourful islands in the Caribbean, then to Latin America and onto the Middle East and beyond. From the chaotic rush hour traffic of Cairo to the rustic donkey-carts of the surrounding villages, the VW beetles of Mexico’s sprawling capital to the Fiat 500’s that line Romes backstreets. Check out the collection ‘Traffic’
